Compare the Des Moines and Colorado Springs Monopoly editions on landmarks, price, and play feel to decide which city board belongs on your table.
Quick answer
Choose the Des Moines edition if you want a Midwest-capital tribute with riverfront and downtown references and don't mind paying a little more; choose Colorado Springs if mountain scenery and a lower price matter more to you.
What each city edition puts on the board
The Colorado Springs edition leans into mountain scenery and iconic local landmarks, so the board reads as a scenic tour of the Pikes Peak region. The Des Moines edition focuses on the capital city's downtown streets and riverfront trails, with a mix of well-known stops and lesser-known local spots.
Neither product listing specifies the exact property squares, token lineup, or rule variations, so treat the landmark descriptions as the main guide. If a specific street or attraction must appear, confirm the square list before buying.
Price and value trade-off
At catalog prices, the Colorado Springs edition is listed at USD 24.79 against a USD 39.99 comparison price, while Des Moines is USD 28.79 against the same comparison price. That makes Colorado Springs the lower-cost entry point, but Des Moines costs only a few dollars more.
The price gap is small enough that local attachment should decide it. Paying more only makes sense if the Des Moines landmarks mean something to your group; otherwise the Colorado Springs board delivers the same Monopoly format for less.
Where each edition falls short
Both are standard Monopoly gameplay dressed in city colors, so neither offers a new rule set or a shorter play time. If your group wants a fast, novelty mechanic, a city edition is the wrong purchase regardless of which city you pick.
The Des Moines edition's higher price buys local specificity, not extra components or content that the listing documents. The Colorado Springs edition's lower price comes with a scenery-first theme that may feel less personal if you have no connection to the area.
Trade-offs to weigh before you buy
- Local recognition vs scenic theme: Pick Des Moines if downtown and riverfront references will resonate with your players; pick Colorado Springs if mountain landmarks are the stronger draw. Ask each player to name one landmark they expect on the board before deciding.
- Lower price vs local specificity: Colorado Springs is the cheaper board at USD 24.79 versus USD 28.79 for Des Moines, but the Des Moines premium is small enough to justify only if the city connection is real. Set a firm budget first, then see whether the Des Moines landmarks still feel worth the extra cost.
- Standard play vs novelty expectations: Both editions use the familiar buy-sell-trade Monopoly format; if your group expects new mechanics, neither city board will satisfy that. Confirm your group enjoys classic Monopoly before choosing either edition.
