Learn how to play the Harry Potter Lexicon Go! word game. This guide covers setup, gameplay, and winning rules for new players.
Quick answer
To play Harry Potter Lexicon Go!, each player races to get rid of all their letter tiles by building words on the table and swapping letters with opponents. The first player to empty their hand wins.
What's in the bag
The Harry Potter Lexicon Go! game comes in a portable drawstring bag that holds all the playing card tiles. Inside you'll find letter tiles, four special spell tiles, and the rules sheet. The compact bag makes it easy to take to a friend's house or on a trip.
Spell tiles add a twist
The Harry Potter edition includes four spell tiles that let you do things like steal a tile from another player's word or force a swap. These tiles speed up the game and add strategy, especially when someone is close to winning.
How to play Harry Potter Lexicon Go!
- Set up the tiles: Shuffle all letter tiles and deal 10 to each player face down. Place the remaining tiles in a draw pile in the center. Each player keeps their tiles hidden from others. Common mistake: dealing too few or too many tiles. Always count exactly 10 per player.
- Start the round: On the count of three, all players flip their tiles face up and begin arranging them into words in front of themselves. You can rearrange your own words at any time.
- Swap and steal tiles: You may take a tile from another player's word and add one of your own tiles to their word in its place. You can also add tiles from your hand onto any word on the table. The goal is to empty your hand. Checkpoint: you cannot take a tile without leaving a tile behind. Every swap must be one for one.
- Use spell tiles: When you play a spell tile, follow its special action (for example, steal a tile without replacing it, or force a specific swap). Spell tiles count as one of your tiles toward emptying your hand.
- Win the round: The first player to place their last tile onto any word on the table shouts 'Lexicon!' and wins the round. The game ends immediately. Common mistake: forgetting to shout 'Lexicon!' — if you place your last tile silently, other players may continue and the win is unclear.
